When you go through hard times, it can really put things into perspective. At CPA, we’re going through one of those times right now. We recently lost one of our clients unexpectedly, which has caused much grief and conversation among our practitioners. One of those conversations has been about the concept of wondering whether or not our clients realize how much we care for them. And that isn’t just an isolated concept within our practice. Rather, for the most part, anyway, your therapist genuinely wants you to succeed and help you create the life you’ve always dreamed of.

Here are a few things our therapists at CPA want you to know:

We Like You and Love Hearing About You

Your therapist really does like you and those smiles we flash you are indeed genuine. Nothing in our sessions is fake or forced, and we aren’t following any kind of script to move your “journey” along. Getting to know each and every one of you is one of the best parts of our job. And it’s exciting for us when you begin to open up because while there are things about yourself you may not like, we can see the bigger picture. We also love to see pictures of your pets and hear stories about your kids and families.

We Cry and Grieve Just As You Do

Just because we have training doesn’t mean we don’t feel loss and sadness. We have our own methods of coping, but we get upset just like you do. If we lose a client to death – accidental, suicide or anything in between – we cry and grieve for them and their families.

We Are Always in Your Corner

Due to ethical reasons, we aren’t allowed to be your friend. However, that doesn’t mean that we don’t root for you and your successes. We become so proud of you, especially when you open up and show us your most vulnerable state. Sometimes, that includes your darkest hour, but we still accept you and care for you just the same.

We Think of You Outside Our Sessions

Seriously, we do. It could be a song or a TV show. A random event or funny encounter. There are a number of things that happen during the day-to-day lives that sometimes trigger us to think of you too!

This is why it’s so important to have a good therapeutic relationship with your therapist.

Finding the Right Therapist with CPA

You have to feel that you can trust your therapist so that you can be open and really work on what brought you into our office in the first place. But even with all that said, don’t ever worry about terminating services or changing therapists or accidentally dropping off the face of the earth. We are trained professionals. We might wonder what happens to you if everything is okay, but we understand how important growth is and we want to see our birdies fly the nest!
