Key Difference of the Gottman Method for Couples

A key difference of the Gottman method is that we use the underlying strengths of the couple’s relationship to build on a path forward.  Many couples fear couples counseling because they assume it will be dredging up the past and reliving the pain.  Couples often get stuck in these painful and dramatic cycles of hurtful communion and conflict patterns.  We all experience these from time to time.  Our approach is to rebuild confidence and learn new techniques for communion and build a positive path to the future – rather than dredging up old issues and conflicts.

Why use the Gottman Method?

  • Short-term and goal orientated
  • It changes your thinking about your problem area – in this case, your relationships
  • It changes the way that you feel – so the change is long term

Our Gottman therapists have experience with working with couples, especially young couples traversing the pain of new relationship challenges, Things like the first baby or moving to a new and more expensive home.  We use several treatment modalities other than the Gottman Method including strong Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) skills. Our team’s genuine care and nonjudgmental approach will make you feel comfortable working through any difficult areas.
